Every piece of Quail Lane Press artwork is 100% hand-drawn by the artist using drawing pens, ink, and paper — and then hand-printed on a vintage letterpress in our Milwaukie, Oregon studio. No AI tools are used anywhere in our creative process: not for generating images, not for assisting with design, not for layout, not for anything. The artist sits down with reference maps and topographic data and draws each line by hand. That drawing is then physically pressed into cotton paper on a mechanical press built decades before AI existed. Unlike wood-pulp paper (which is what most books, magazines, and office paper are made from), cotton paper is made from cotton linters, the short fibers left on cotton seeds after ginning. This gives the paper several important properties: it is naturally acid-free, so it will not yellow or become brittle over time; it has a soft, pillowy surface that accepts the deep impression of a letterpress beautifully; and it is extremely durable — museum conservators consider cotton rag paper archival-quality because it can last for centuries without degradation. It's Berry Season in the PacNW

Our entire household has been consuming a ridiculous amount of berries for the last few weeks.
